Friday Night Live

It's around 11pm and the hospital is rockin'. There's not an hour of the day that it's calm here.

The reconstructive surgeon pulled one of Selah's skull drains this afternoon because the output of blood was low enough that he felt good about pulling it. The left side drainage tube is still on because the blood drainage is still too much to safely pull it. (The blood would pool in her skull if it didn't have the drainage tube, and we don't want that.)

All of the doctors are very pleased with Selah's progress, bi it she still won't drink a thing. She won't even let the bottle or sippy cup come near her mouth. She can't go home until she's eating and drinking, so please pray that Selah will have an appetite and want her bottle!!!!! It's so frustrating because she LOVES her "baba" at home. After going 4 full days without drinking anything at all (or putting anything in her mouth), I'm wondering what it's going to take to build her trust again and have a desire to drink something from her bottle or sippy cup. If anyone has any ideas, I'd sure love to hear them!!! (I realize Selah isn't going to feel hungry since she's being fed formula through her feeding tube, but I'm talking about ideas for getting Selah to allow items to go into her mouth.)

We withheld one feed and one pain med dosage today to see if thy would increase Selah's appetite and get her to drink from her bottle, but it didn't work. Since Selah doesn't have an IV to receive IV fluids for hydration, the doctors don't want to skip more than one feeding. Ugh, I sure would live ideas on this one. Feeding therapy with an OT maybe?!?!

The doctor said today that if Selah will start eating/drinking, she could possibly go home Sunday!!! That would be so awesome, but I don't see what's going to help Selah want to put her bottle in her mouth, so I'm not sure how we're going to get out of here!

Please pray for Selah to WANT to drink her bottle and eat food. I know God has the ability to do this, no doubt, but maybe there's a reason why He wants us to stay here longer. Maybe there's an OT here who needs to meet Selah and see God's miracles written all over her.

Oh, pray for some good rest tonight, too. Selah is still really fussy with stomah cramping and constipation pains. In fact, she just woke up crying, so I've gotta go. Goodnight!
