I will not leave you as orphans…

In John 14:18, Jesus Christ makes a promise to YOU and to ME and to EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. when He says, “I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you.”

This scripture has so much meaning to every single one of us.

When Jesus left earth as God in the flesh, He promised that He would not simply abandon us, leaving us alone as orphans without a Father.

No, Jesus never left us fatherless.  He RESCUED us through His death and resurrection.  He DIED for you and for me so that He could offer us eternal life.  He has come for us, just as He promised.

The cost was great, unfathomable really.  The ransom for you and for me was the life of Jesus Christ, and He was willing to pay it because He loves you and He loves me.

Oh, please, Jesus, help us to love as passionately as You love.

Because Jesus died for you and for me, because He fulfilled His promise to not leave us as orphans, to come to us, because He loved us while we were still sinners, because He loves…we should be anxious to do the same for others.

There are 147+ million orphans in the world today who are waiting for you and for me to come to them, just as Jesus rescued us.

I urge you during National Adoption Awareness Month to pray about how God wants to use YOU to live out John 14:18 and James 1:27 (care for orphans) right now.  Do not delay (delayed obedience is disobedience.)  Leave a comment to let me know what YOU will do during Adoption Awareness Month, November 2011, to live out these verses.  I’d love to hear the various things you’ll be doing for His glory.
