Proverbs 2 (January 2, 2011)
Moral Benefits of Wisdom
1 My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
I felt a little blown away at how well Proverbs 2 links together with the whole "Boss Your Heart" theme! One thing I've learned is that there are a whole lot of people who read this blog who were brought here via prayers for our Princess Chrissie, and there are a whole lot of you who would like to "boss your heart" in memory of Chrissie, but you want to know more about how to do that. Well, the good news for you, my friends, is that the answer is found right here in Proverbs 2! I'm going to share with you what I feel this verse means from a "boss your heart" viewpoint:
1 My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
and store up my commands within you,
We must accept and BELIEVE God's Word as Truth, and fill our hearts with His Word, His Truth, His promises, His commands, His encouragement, His character.
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
and cry aloud for understanding,
We should pray before reading God's Word, asking God to give us insight, wisdom and understanding. He will grant it to us, and oh what a difference it makes when we read His Word AND UNDERSTAND!
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
SEEK HIM MORE than we seek anything else in our lives...
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
and find the knowledge of God.
And then we will truly KNOW Him, understand His character, trust His goodness, and follow His will instead of our own. We will have the knowledge of God, and that (He!) will help us to "boss our hearts" in all circumstances.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
It is our Father and His Word that give us knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
As we die to ourselves and walk with The Spirit (thus, bossing our hearts in step with His), we are headed in the direction of success (His success), for He is our shield and our strength.
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
As we faithfully seek Him, He will guard us and protect us. (We have to remember that doesn't equate to easy or pain-free! Think of Mary traveling on a donkey 9 months pregnant for days/weeks to Jerusalem...not easy or pain-free, but God guarded her course and protected her way.)
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
and fair—every good path.
When we faithfully seek Him above all else, hiding His treasures in our hearts, then we will finally understand what He considers to be right and just and fair, and we will trust His path, even when it may not be what WE would choose.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
For when we have His wisdom, His promises, His Truth, His character stored up in our hearts, our personal relationship with our Savior will be a constant source of joy to our hearts, regardless of our circumstances. We will boss our hearts to choose JOY, LOVE, and TRUTH, even when we're tempted to do otherwise.
Dear Precious and Loving Father,
Thank you for choosing to place Chrissie in our lives so that you could draw us all closer to you as our knees were bent in prayer for her sweet life. Thank you for choosing to share our princess with the world; we are humbled and honored to try to keep Chrissie's legacy alive. Thank you for coining the term "Boss Your Heart", as there is so much wisdom and depth in that phrase. Thank you for teaching us how to boss our hearts through your Word, and thank you for the steps you outlined in Proverbs 2 as keys to bossing our hearts through You. We ask You to help our hearts to beat in sync with Yours, Abba Father, and we ask you to help us stay on course by giving us a strong desire to read your Word daily, so strong that we want to spend time with You more than we want to do anything else. Thank you for loving us and sending Your Son to save us. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
